The World Series of Poker is known to be the largest and richest gaming event in the world with over $3 billion in prize money having been awarded and the prestigious gold bracelet as a sign of the sport’s top prize – with a comprehensive slate of tournaments that feature all of the major variations of poker currently played, it’s the longest poker tournament in the world having run since 1970. After a successful 17-year run at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, it looks as if a change of scenery is on the cards with the WSOP finding a new home on the strip inside Bally’s and Paris from 2022.
The news comes with a new Master of Ceremonies too – award-winning actor Vince Vaughn who is well known for some of his comedy roles including Dodgeball and Wedding Crashers, but also for some more serious roles too such as True Detective, has been appointed the role – and no stranger to the Poker table himself, as an avid Poker player for much of his life he’ll certainly feel right at home.
“I have such a strong connection to Las Vegas and am honoured to be selected as the Master of Ceremonies for what is set to be the most anticipated World Series of Poker Tournament ever. Poker has long been one of my favourite sports, so to be a part of something as historic as the WSOP finally moving to the strip is an absolute dream. Vegas Baby, Vegas!” – if that doesn’t sum up Vaughn’s excitement for both the appointment and changing scenery, then nothing will, as excitement is certainly building.
There will of course be some fans sad to see the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino left behind, with such a long run for some it’ll be known as the home of Poker at the highest level and hold some nostalgia for previous years of viewing, and for the players the feeling will be the same too. But it does open new opportunities to explore, and for some the hope that Bally’s and Paris can remain as the location for just as long a period of time to prevent the event bouncing around from location-to-location year after year.
